What is a word you feel that too many people use?
I gotta admit that I am fatigued of the word, “triggered.” It seems like anyone can be triggered by anything. Not only that, but many times, they demand the right to chastise others for even putting them in a position of feeling that way. I’m mean, it’s exhausting!
The fact is that life comes with challenges that will cause deep and lasting emotions in us. We will go through things that hurt us and some that fundamentally change who we are.
We will be judged and misunderstood.
Not everyone will like us.
Not everyone will affirm us or our choices.
Most people won’t care about us, or what we have gone through.
It’s harsh, but it’s true!
So, when I see someone complaining about being “triggered”, it drives me crazy! It could be a generational thing. My generation, GenX, was full of latchkey kids, wire fences, and playgrounds made of metal.
I have had genuinely traumatic things happen to me and struggled with health issues over the past 30 years of my life. Yet, I am not always super aware of something that will upset me. I certainly don’t seek out things or people that will upset me. I don’t let everyone know I am upset or demand they see my point of view.
Then again, I am very blessed. I have a loving husband, supportive friends, and in my opinion, I also have the best family. Of course, I am partial.
I already went through the angst of being a teenager, the rebellious phase of my 20’s, and came out, somehow, with my sanity still somewhat intact. (Somewhat being the key word here.)
Mostly, though, it is through the presence of God that my heart, mind, and life has solidarity, purpose, peace, and hope. I no longer care what others think of me, I only care who Jesus says I am.
Oh, no, I’m atheist and you’ve triggered me! Just kidding – I agree with you about the word triggered.

So true. But this doesn’t seem to be as pervasive as it used to be
