I love organizing. Granted, I have not always been this way, but now, when I get something new, I happily go through the old things and re-organize. Last night, I organized my jewelry and was reminded that nearly all the pieces have some sentimental meaning. And how I need to wear what I have more often.
Today, I was using my e-notebook, logging what I need to do, organizing my schedule, and writing out verses from my daily devotional book, Jesus Listens. As usual, I highlighted keywords from verses that spoke to my heart about God, His truth, and His promises and provisions. Just today, some of the keywords were adorns, bride, dwell, faith, glory, joyful, kindness, knowledge, mercy, and riches. I mean, talk about an array of beautiful words from the Bible in just one day!
The words from today’s devotional were definitely encouraging and uplifting, yet I realized two things after I tagged the words, which filled me with awe and joy.
First, there will always be words in Scripture that speak to us, words that are precisely what we need to see when we need them the most. Today, as I was saving the keywords, there were some that had never been saved before: adorns, bride, jewels, and riches. This amazed me because they are words frequently used in Scripture.
So, as I made note of these words, God reminded me that, yes, these words are used often in Scripture, yet today, they were incredibly encouraging and renewing me as I read them. Through these verses, God reminded me that He adorns me with the beauty of His love, riches, and salvation. What beautiful imagery, especially since I cleaned and admired my jewelry just last night, reflecting on fond memories and rediscovering specific pieces that make me feel beautiful and loved.
Second, there are always words in Scripture that we can look back on that will minister to our hearts now as much as they did before. As I scrolled through the keywords, I saw 47 pages! I highlighted many words numerous times, like blessed, faith, forever, heart, hope, joy, light, mercy, peace, power, prayer, rejoice, strength, trust, and wisdom.
I was humbled as I read the pages and pages of words related to God, His character, His promises, and His love. And I knew that what I was reading was only one small drop in the ocean of God, his goodness, faithfulness, and love. I pray that as you read the Bible, God gives you words and passages that minister to you now and in the future when you need them the most.
The passages of Scripture from today’s devotional are:
Isaiah 54:5, “For your Maker is your husband, The Lord of hosts is His name; And your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel; He is called the God of the whole earth.”
Isaiah 54:10, “For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed, But My kindness shall not depart from you, Nor shall My covenant of peace be removed,” Says the Lord, who has mercy on you.”
Isaiah 61:10, “ I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, My soul shall be joyful in my God; For He has clothed me with the garments of salvation, He has covered me with the robe of righteousness, As a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments, And as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.”
Ephesians 3:16-17, “That He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.”
